CAR LEAVES ROAD
TWO GIRLS KILLED IN CANTERBURY FOUR OTHER PERSONS INJURED. FAILURE TO NEGOTIATE CORNER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Two persons were killed and four others injured when a motor-car left the road at a corner at Burwood, early this morning, and overturned into a ditch. Those killed were: — Patricia Margaret Mary Collins, aged 17, daughter of Mr J. J. Collins, of 58 Barbadoes Street, Sydenham. Hazel Lenore Dando, aged 16, daughter of Mr L. M. Dando, of 18 Clarence Road, Lower Riccarton. Four who were injured all suffered from concussion, shock and abrasions. They were: — Mrs Sylvia. McDonald, aged 19, of 141 Somerfleld Street; condition serious. Arthur Percival Ivory, aged 19, of 142 Milton Street; condition satisfactory. James Edwards Lewis, aged 24. of 23 York Street, condition, satisfactory. • Edward Clifford, aged 23, of 23 York Street, Opawa; condition satisfactory. The car, a heavy sedan model, was being driven by Ivory towards North Brighton. It left the road at a corner, skidded in gravel on the side of the road and down a slight grassy slope into a dec]? ditch, the left side of the vehicle strik-' ing two big poplar stumps. The stumpstore the side of the car completely oft’ and the roof collapsed. Wreckage was scattered over a fairly wide area and a spare rim and tire finished up 100 feet further down the drain.
