RAILWAY MISHAP
FRONT WHEELS OF ENGINE JUMP TRACK. WHILE PROCEEDING SLOWLY OVER DEVIATION. (By Telegraph—Pi-ess Association.) AUCKLAND, November 4. Softened by heavy rain overnight the new clay formation at Scroggy Hill railway deviation slipped down when the 6.30 a.m. Waitakere train was passing over it and caused the leading wheels of the engine to jump off the track. Tire train was being piloted over the new section by the ganger in charge of the work and was going so slowly that many of the passengers were unaware of the derailment until after the engine had stopped with little more than a slight jerk. A delay of about an hour and a half occurred while the engine was being jacked back to the line by equipment carried for such an emergency and others trains due to pass over the line to and from the city suffered corres--pondingly.
