YOUNG FARMERS’ CLUB
TRIP TO MT. HOLDSWORTH. A CLIMB IN BAD WEATHER. Members of the Masterton Young Farmers’ Club left Masterton on Satur©day afternoon to spend the week-end on a climb on the Tararuas. The weather was very unfavourable. Heavy clouds and fog enveloped the peaks. At the start it appeared to be clearing, but although hopes of a finei trip were raised, rain later set in ilyIn a three-hour trip the Powell Hut was reached, via the Peak flat track. The hut, which is situated well above the bush line on Mt. Holdsworth, and which was built with materials carried up by members of the Hutt Valley Tramping Club, provided comfortable accommodation. Had the weather permitted, it was intended to climb to the trig and follow the peaks of the ranges to the Broken Axe, returning by the Pinnacle Ridge. The main object was to see the sunrise from Mt. Holdsworth. A member of the party took many photographs, despite the bad conditions. It is intended to make a further trip to Mt. Holdsworth at a future date.
