BEAU VITE GUARDED
UNUSUAL PRECAUTIONS • TAKEN SINCE FAILURE OF PLOT LAST WEEK. PROSPECTS IN MELBOURNE CUP. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.20 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The Sydney “Morning Herald’s” Melbourne correspondent says any doubt that might been held about the ability of Beau Vite to win the Melbourne Cup, for which he is a firm favourite, must have been dispelled by his amazing win over High Caste in the MacKinnon Stakes. There is absolute unanimity of opinion among newspaper racing experts that Beau Vite will win. There has not been such whole-hearted enthusiasm for one horse since Phar Lap was selected successfully in 1930. Remarkable precautions are being taken to guard Beau Vite, since the plot to injure him miscarried last week. He was accompanied to and from the course on Saturday by an attendant and two armed guards. Behind him were two uniformed policemen and his owner, Mr, Stewart, who last week was granted a licence to carry a revolver. Policemen accompanied the horse to the mounting enclosure for the MacKinnon Stakes and were there after the race to escort him back to his stall.
