An official communique issued in Cairo states that British mechanised patrols have again been active in the Kassala area of the Sudan. GREATLY HEARTENED DECLARATION BY GENERAL SMUTS. NAIROBI, November 2. The South African Prime Minister, General Smuts, flew back to South Africa after a lightning tour of the Kenya front. He also visited Khartoum. “I am tremendously heartened by all I have seen." he said. VICTORY AT ODDS GAINED BY SOUTH AFRICAN PLANES. NAIROBI, November 2. A communique, states that two South African Air Force Hurricanes intercepted three Italian planes and shot down two and severely damaged the other, which is believed to have crashed. The South African planes returned.
