OBITUARY
MR THOMAS JEFFERSON ORR. The death occurred at Tinui yesterday of Mr Thomas Jefferson Orr at the age of 52 years. Mr Orr. who was the second son of the late Mr and Mrs William Orr, Greytown, was born at Pahiatua. He was engaged in farming at Greytown. He served with the First N.Z.E.F. and was badly wounded. On returning to New Zealand he continued farming at Grey town, later taking up a farm at Ashhurst. In his younger days he was a keen judge of stock and won several competitions as a judge of draught horses. He recently took up the position of manager of the Speedy estate’s “Awatea” property at Tinui, to relieve a younger man for service. Mr Orr was a noted rifle shot, winning prizes in New Zealand and Australia. He was frequently in the King’s Fifty at Bisley. He took a keen interest in educational and political matters, the latter in particular of which he had a sound knowledge. During the last election he acted as secretary to Mr J. F. Thompson. The late Mr Orr was held in high esteem by a wide circle of friends. He is survived by a widow (nee Miss A. Wakefield, of Sydney, New South Wales); and two young children. Surviving brothers and sisters are Messrs AV. J. Orr (Whakatane). Alex Orr (Palmerston North). Harold F. Orr (Christchurch), and Mesdames Suisted (Palmerston North), J. Young (Auckland), and A. Ernest (Whakatane).
The funeral will take place in Greytown on Wednesday. November 6, and will leave the Presbyterian Church, following a service at 1.45, for the Greytown Cemetery.
