MEETING AT FLEMINGTON DERBY WON BY LUCRATIVE. BEAU VITE SCORES IN STAKES. ißy Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) MELBOURNE. November 3. The weather was dull and there was a good attendance for the first day of the V.R.C. meeting al Flemington. The going was good but a hard wind militated against fast times. The Derby opened sensationally. Pandect was side on when the barrier rose and was further hampered by a collision with Warbird, both being hopelessly left. Lucrative, always well placed, resisted a challenge from Tranquil Star, and Dark Felt surprised by securing third place. Tidal Wave finished well for fourth, with Scientist, and Nightbeam was never dangerous. Pandect did well to beat five others home. M. McCarten, rider of, Lucrative, said the colt always had the race won and should have a great chance in the Cup. Lucrative has now won £11,200 in stakes. Sectional times were: First half mile, 521, last four furlongs 49J, last six 1.133. Whether Lucrative would run in the Cup is to be decided on Monday. McCarten considers that the colt would run two miles, but Trainer H. Freedman will be guided by the owner's wishes. Gold Salute, always prominent, won the Cantala Stakes comfortably. Amiable ran a poor race. Gold Salute has now had three wins and a second in his last four starts. Beau Vite had his sixth successive victory by winning the L.K.S. Mackinnon Stakes. High Caste was with him for two furlongs from the post but was outclassed in the final stages. Historian was a fair third. Maikai disappointed. Beau Vite has now won £18,410 in stakes. The pace was slow early, the first five furlongs taking 1.31 and the last four 481. Beau Vite 1 greatly pleased his Melbourne Cup admirers. Session directed attention to her Oaks prospects by an impressive win in the Wakefield Slakes. Trueness showed improved form and Stylish was a good third. Munro, rider of Session, won the Wakeful Stakes previously on Siren. The Gimcrack Stakes winner All Love. outclassed the Maribyrnong Plate field. She cost 250 guineas as a yearling and with two starts and two wins is one of the most promising youngsters of recent years. Portable finished well to beat Pyramus for place honours. Rider D. Munro won the race previously on Broadcaster and Fidelity.

Dashing Cavalier directed attention to his Cup chance by a brilliant finishing effort in the Hotham Handicap. Gladynev looked the winner a furlong from home, but was unable to withstand the challenge. Saint Warden who showed his best Melbourne form for third and Wilson was a failfourth. Gilltown gave a poor display and was third last. H. Badger and J. O'Sullivan were suspended for a month for crossing the field in the Derby and Hotham Handicap .respectively.
