RANGITIKEI MEMORIAL WON BY TAURANGI. WIN FOR RED CAT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) BULLS, November 2. The feature of the spring meeting of the Rangitikei Racing Club held at Bulls on Saturday was the win of the New Zealand Cup candidate, Taurangi, in the principal event, the J. F. McKelvie Memorial Handicap. Taurangi is owned by Mr W. McA. Duncan, who also won the open sprint with Red Cat, while a stablemate in Tuatara ran second. Taurangi’s Good Effort. Taurangi won the McKelvie Memorial at the Rangitikei meeting on Saturday, but she did not have the easy success some anticipated. At the same time it was a good effort as she was last for six furlongs, and got checked twice when trying to make up some ground. Eventually Mudford pulled her right to the outer between the lour and the three, and never running inside a horse thereafter, he had her up in a challenging position as they straightened up. At this stage the pacemakers, Colossal Chief. Hunting Cat, and Dark Eagle, were just being headed off by Little’ Robin and Meamea, the latter getting a beautiful opening on the outside of the rail horse. Meamea and Little Robin held on well, but Taurangi was too good and gradually drew ahead. She had nothing in reserve, being hard pressed and inclined to run in, but under the circumstances it was a satisfactory performance. It should also be stated in her favour that she had only recovered that morning from a severe attack of kidney trouble; in fact, the previous day the stable regarded her as an improbable starter,
