GREYTOWN

SOCIAL AND DANCE AN ENJOYABLE GATHERING. ("Times-Age” Special.) The Greytown members of the Expeditionary Force were entertained at a social and dance in the Town Hall last night. The gathering was a most enjoyable one. The Mayor (Mr. A. W. Horton) ten - dered the best wishes of the citizens of Greytown to the soldiers. Mr. Horton said that he was confident that they would uphold the traditions of the first New Zealand Expeditionary Force. Sapper J. Wilson was a soldier in the last war and Sapper Harrison was the son of a war veteran. On behalf of the Citizens’ Committee the Mayoress (Mrs. Horton) presented each soldier with a diary and fountain pen. Mr. S. C. Shedden spoke on behalf of the returned soldiers, and apologised for the absence of the chairman of the local branch, who was absent owing to illness. A party of n.c.o.’s from Tauaharenikau was present. The music was supplied by Te Tau’s orchestra, and extras were played by Drysdale’s band. Mr. Robinson was M.C. The supper arrangements were in the capable hands of the Patriotic Ladies' Committee. Personal Items. Mr. and Mrs. Max Maddison, of Hastings, are on a holiday visit to Greytown. ■ Mr. Eric Skeet, who has been in the Greytown Hospital for some weeks returned to his home yesterday.
