While the cross-Channel bombardment reported in earlier messages was taking place the ships which were the objective of the German bombardment proceeded west through a shell-tossed sea. A thousand persons watched from the "English coast. Dover’s new shelling sirens sounded. A hundred shells were fired in the first three-quarters of on hour. The ships were not damaged. British long-range guns answered the German bombardment, which ceased after an hour. I
