RAIDS ON BRITAIN

LIGHT DAMAGE AND FEW CASUALTIES. LONDON, October 31. German air attacks on Britain last night were directed mainly at London, the east and south of England. Bombs were also dropped on the Nlidlands. Most of the raids occurred in the earlier part of the night. They were not heavy and ceased some time before daylight. An Air Ministry communique says that houses were hit in several places, but the damage was slight and the casualties few. German losses during yesterday were nine planes. Five R.A.F. planes are missing, but two pilots are safe. Two more London churches were damaged in recent raids. Bombs also fell in Leicester Square, on St Bartholomew’s Medical School and on the centre court at Wimbledon.

In spite of bad weather last night, British bombers attacked the Channel ports and communications in Western Germany.
