HARBOUR WORKS AT OSTEND
Latest British Bombing Raids MANY BASES AND DEPOTS ATTACKED DAYLIGHT ONSLAUGHT ON CHERBOURG The Germans, a 8.8. C. broadcast states, have been busily engaged in trying to repair the docks at the harbour of Ostend. On Wednesday night British bombers smashed up the port again. In spite of unfavourable weather, British formations also attacked enemy bases and depots at Emden, Antwerp and Flushing. A bombing attack was made on Cherbourg in daylight and four enemy motor torpedo-boats were also attacked twenty miles out in the Channel. The Air Ministry reports isolated attacks by enemy aircraft on various parts of Britain. There was a small number of casualties and the damage done was slight. Heavy gunfire greeted the first raiders over London, but long intervals of quiet followed. Nine German planes were destroyed over Britain on Wednesday. Five British fighters were lost. On Tuesday, thirty German machines were brought down and seven British planes with two of their pilots were lost.
