WILLIAM & JEDEDIAH
TWO REMARKABLE MEN. This is the story of two remarkable men. One was William Harmon who was born in 1862. An American citizen honoured in Ohio, he was a shrewd businessman who had wit enough to see the trend of things, and could lay out his money to immense advantage, often reaping- a profit of 50 per cent, and sometimes getting 100 per cent. But he was a good man. this William Harmon, and one of the best things he ever did was to set up the Harmon Foundation helping needy' students. and paving' the way for Negroes to win success. In all America there have been few pieces of philanthropy that have brought better results. The other man was Jedediah Tingle who, oddly enough, died on the same day at the same hour as William Harmon. He was a Puritan in spirit, and he went up and down the length of America doing good in secret. He helped poets and authors. He found out. people who were doing beautiful things and encouraged them.
