The death occurred at the Wellington hospital yesterday of Mr. John Baden Powell Julius, of Woodside, at the age of 40 years. The Rev. J. D. Salmond has returned to Dunedin from Melbourne after representing the youth committee of the Presbyterian Church at the triennial meeting of the Joint Board of the .'Graded Lessons of Australia and New Zealand.
Colonel R. A. Row, D. 5.0., N.Z.S.C., who has been officer commanding the Central Military District, will leave Wellington tonight for Auckland to take up his new appointment as officer commanding the Northern Field Force. Colonel Row will be succeeded at Wellington by Brigadier N. McD. Weir, Auckland.
Mr. C. Meachen, secretary of the Wellington branch of St. John Ambulance Association and the board of the Otaki Children’s Health Camp, is to leave soon on a month’s visit to Australia. During his absence from New Zealand. Mr. Meachen is to investigate administration of health camps and the affairs of crippled children. He will be accompanied by Mrs. Meachen. A pioneer of the Nelson and Waimea districts, Mr. Joseph Henry Steer died at Tapawera recently. He was born at Geelong, Victoria, in 1849. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Street, arrived in Australia from Sussex, England. in 1847. They came to New Zealand iseven years later, settling in the Nelson district, where Joseph Henry, the eldest son. lived the whole of his life. He was twice married. His first wife predeceased him in 1894, leaving a familv of five sons and two daughters. He is survived by his second wife and family of four sons and three daughters. The 14 children reside in different parts of the Dominion.
