Augment’s Comfortable Win. The favourite Augment (owned and trained by B. Burgess, of»Masterton), had a comfortable win in the Tararua Handicap at Trentham yesterday. He was always handy on the fence and running to the front at the false rail he drew clear and was never in danger of being caught. Last Acre who had drifted back to last at the five furlongs came sharply into prominence at the last furlong, but while he was unable to trouble the winner, he was comfortably second from Sceptre who just hold on for third against Harina. Winning Jockeys at Trentham.
W. J. Broughton, who has established a commanding lead already on the jockeys’ ladder, was the most successful horseman at the Wellington spring meeting, riding four winners. R. Howell and H. N. Wiggins each rode three winners, and L. J. Ellis, B. H. Morris, and S. Waddell two each. The following each rode one winner:—R. E. Hawes, P. Burgess. S. A. Wright. P. Williams, A. Jenkins. A. Midwood, A. C. Mcjsservy and A. Anderson.
