BRITISH STOCKS RISING
SWING AWAY FROM FORMER VIEWS.
It would be rash to predict any particular development of the war in the near future, writes Mr J. A. Swender m the, “Yorkshire Observer." Enough has been said to show that, even if Germany were able to defeat Britain, she would not be left alone to reap the spoils or divide them with her partner, but be required to face another war with numerous claimants to that rich booty in all parts of the world. But all over the world there is evidence of a swing-back from the view, widely current after the surrender of France, that Britain could not win the war single-handed. The world in general has always been slow to understand the sources of British power, but the confidence of the British people and the courage with which they are facing their task are everywhere making a profound impression. British diplomacy will get its chance as this impression spreads and deepens.
