WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION SEASON OPENED ON SATURDAY. SOME FAIR SCORING. The Wairarapa Cricket Association opened the season, on Saturday in fine weather and with the wickets in good order. JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP Old Boys v. Red Star A. —Old Boys beat Red Star by an innings and 41 runs in a match played at the Park Oval on Saturday. The scores were: — Old Boys 211 (J. Fitzpatrick 53, J. Polson 29, M. Armstrong 48, W. Dyer 26). Red Star 75 (Ewington 11, Peers 12, Seigle 17); second innings, 95 (Seigle 18, Longworth 12, Ewington 15, Fisher 13, Colban 10). College v. Red Star B.—The Wairarapa College team beat Red Star B by an innings. Scores: College, 155; Red Star B 27 and 53. IN OTHER CENTRES Wellington—Three teams, Kilbirnie. College, Old Boys and Hutt, secured the maximum points in the first series of senior championship cricket matches in Wellington on Saturday. The features of the day’s play were the collapses in their second innings of Midland and Wellington, and the second innings batting recovery of Karori, who, though beaten on the first innings, were able to make a good fight in an effort to reverse the decision. Results were: Kilbirnie, IS9 and 52 for none, beat University, 93 and 152, by 10 wickets; College Old Boys, 255, beat Midland. 76 and 36. by an innings and 112 runs; Hutt, 185, beat Wellington, 91 and 52, by an innings and 42 runs; Institute, 195 and 112 for four, beat Karori, 92 and 259 for seven wickets, declared, by 103 runs on the first innings.
Christchurch—The second round of senior cricket matches was played on Saturday. Riccarton, 160, beat Army, 91, on the first innings; Sydenham, 150 for five, declared, beat Harewood Aerodrome, 90. and 82 for three, on the first innings; West Christchurch, 207, beat Old Collegians, 90, on the first innings; Old Boys, 251 (Hadlee 102, Anderson 50), drew with St. Albans, 223 for seven (Cummings 80); East Christchurch, 172 for seven (James 89), beat West Christchurch Old Boys, 167 (Hobbs 72), by three wickets; Lancaster Park, 204 for nine declared (Stout 85), beat Wigram Aerodrome, 99. and 61 for four on the first innings.
Dunedin—High School Old Boys, 309 for six (Edwards 78, Otway 67 not out) beat Grange 217 and 97 for five wickets; Albion-Y.M.C.A.. 220 (Ditchfield 70). beat Kaikorai, 109 and 136; Carisbrook B, 193 and 168 (Cavanagh 58). beat Dunedin, 130, and 35 for no wickets; University, 215 (Dunn 59), beat Carisbrook A 177 and 118 for one wicket (Milnes 57 not out).
Auckland—The first series of games in the Auckland cricket championships was concluded in fine weather on Saturday. ReSults: Eden, 353 for nine wickets declared, beat Papakura Camp, 148, and 115 for four wickets, on the first innings; University, 107, and 163 for four wickets, defeated outright Grafton, 171 and 98 for seven wickers declared; North Shore, 248 and 59 for one. defeated Middlemor, 226 (Pearson 63. McMahon 51), on the first innings; Parnell, 226, defeated PonsonbyBalmoral, 115 and 273 (Clcal 118) on the first innings; Y.M.C.A., 202 defeated Training College. 184 (Delamore 57) on the first innings.
