NEW ZEALAND TROOPS

INSPECTED BY MR EDEN AT CAIRO GLORIES OF THE PAST RECALLED. BRILLIANT CEREMONIAL PARADE. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (New Zealand Expeditionary Force Official News). (Received This Day, Noon). CAIRO, October 26. The glorious deeds of New Zealand’s fighting forces of the past were yesterday again upheld as an inspiring example to the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. A message of pride and confidence was brought in person from the Government and people of Britain by the British Secretary of State for War (Mr. Anthony Eden), who took the salute at a brilliant ceremonial parade.

Addressing the assembled troops, Mr. Eden spoke of the failure of Germany to accomplish her threatened invasion of England and said the enemy’s daily raids and night bombing tactics could never win air supremacy at Home. Therefore, it might well be that Hitler would turn his attention, to the Middle East, where other conquerors had met their doom.

Mr. Eden expressed pleasure at the opportunity to say, on behalf of the Government and every section of the British people, how proud and happy they were at the presence of the splendid troops from New Zealand. Britain knew that the New Zealanders would uphold the traditions of their Dominion’s military history. “No one can pay you a higher compliment than that,” said Mr. Eden. “Good luck and God speed.” The troops drilled and marched in review order as never before. During his inspection, Mr. Eden walked through the lines, pausing often to speak to individual officers and men.” Strong west winds to gales, changing to southerlies tomorrow, weather changeable with periods of heavy showers, and with- fair intervals. Temperatures will become cooler.
