DAWN ATTACK
POWER STATION BOMBED AT BREST BATTLE WITH ENEMY FIGHTERS OFF THE NORWEGIAN COAST. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day. 11.10 a.m.) RUGBY, October 27. “Before daylight on Saturday morning, aircraft of the Coastal Command delivered a successful attack on the electric power station at Brest,” states an Air Ministry bulletin. Later in the day, other aircraft of the Coastal Command carried .out a torpedo attack on shipping off the Norwegian coast. One enemy supply vessel was sunk. Our aircraft were then attacked by a strong force of enemy fighters, one of which was shot down. Two of our aircraft are missing. “Yesterday morning, aircraft of the Bomber Command, while searching for another of our aircraft which was missing, encountered and shot down an enemy float plane in the North Sea. SHOWERS OF BOMBS MANY INCENDIARIES FALL ON LONDON ENEMY USING BASES IN NORWAY. RAIDS EXTEND TO NORTHERN IRELAND. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.55 a.m.) LONDON. October 27. A feature of the night raids on the London district was early dropping of shoals of incendiary bombs, though later a number of explosives, including heavy bombs fell. Berlin earlier reported that several hundred fighters and bombers flew to England from bases in Norway and France. Each bomber carried up to two tons of bombs. Fifteen incendiary bombs fell on a large hospital on the outskirts of London. The fire brigade was quickly reinforced by members of the staff and subdued the flames. An explosive bomb falling in a business quarter damaged a printing establishment, offices and shops. The police evacuated people from nearby shelters. There were no casualties. Raids on Scotland last night were more extensive than recently. Damage was confined to private property. Many bombs fell in rural areas. One destroyed a house,. killing a woman and two children. Raiders machinegunned the streets of this town without causing a casualty. The Northern Ireland Ministry of Security stated that anti-aircraft batteries last night went into action against enemy planes off the coast of Northern Ireland. London had two alerts in the morning. Bombs fell in several London areas during the first alert and also in a Home counties town. Fighters brought down a raider on the outskirts of London during the second alert.
