Time, 1.44. The Ring Again. The Ring at double figures scored well in the Watkins Handicap at Trentham on Saturday. She lay about seventh in the running and, moving up entering the straight, she ran on just too well for the others, but at the same time she ran in on Trench Law and Sly Fox. who had just headed off Amigo. The latter had enjoyed a perfect run all the way in behind the pacemakers, Windsor Chief and Ned Cuttie, but he was weakening when Sly Fox and Trench Law came at, him. Sly Fox gathered way again in the last hundred yards, but he just missed second place to Homily, who put in a strong run home on the outer from the back of the field. Little Robin was right up in fourth place, and then came Lockit, Amigo, Trench Law and Pearl of Asia. The last-named drifted right back going out of the straight, but put in a strong run entering the straight, weakening again at the end. A Solid Win. Handily placed on the rails just in behind the pacers all the way, the hot favourite Poutatau scored narrowly but solidly in the Belmont Handicap al: Trenthain on Saturday from Gayest Son. who got poorly away and had to stand up a good deal of ground. As he had the winner fully stretched at the finish and under the whip, he looked the unlucky runner of the race. Duvach, who ran up in the first furlong, and made the pace until displaced by Retrogression and Stencil, ran another solid and consistent race for third, but the pair in front were going away from her at the end. There was a big bunch closely following the first three home, including Augment. Oragon. Sceptre, Counter and Siglow. Retrogression and Stencil faded out in the straight, the former being nearly last. Airline, having his second race of the day, was one of the last to leave the mark, and coming wide into the straight, he nearly fell at the false rail. Poutatau, who was having his first race since July, showed great, courage in a punishing finish.
