CARTERTON
FACTORY ACCIDENT AN EMPLOYEE SCALDED. (“Times-Age" Special.) An unfortunate accident occurred at the Belvedere cheese factory, Carterton, yesterday morning. An employee, Mr V. Lee, as far as can be ascertained lifted a bucket of water from the floor and in doing so was unaware that it contained hot water. It is not known just how the accident occurred but Mr Lee received the contents of the bucket down his back and on one arm. He was conveyed to Dr. Wells’s surgery where he was attended to. He was taken later to his home, where he will remain for at least a fortnight. CROQUET METHODIST CLUB OPENS SEASON. The official opening of the Methodist Croquet Club's 'season was held under ideal conditions. The president, Mrs Dagleish, declared the season open and drove the first ball through the hoop. A beautiful posy of spring flowers was handed to Mrs Dagleish by Miss Martin while the Rev. Daleish was presented with a button-hole by Mrs Wilkins. During the afternoon competitions were held, and enjoyed by all. Afternoon tea was served in the school hall. BOWLING OPENING DAY ARRANGEMENTS. The Carterton Bowling Club will be represented at the official opening of the Greytown bowling season which will take place on Saturday. It is intended the official opening of the Carterton Ladies’ Bowling Club will take place on the green on Saturday next, following the official opening of the men’s green on the same day. Mr Gordon Hughan, the club’s president, will perform both ceremonies. Members are asked to remember that it will be a general tea day for all. Visitors from sister clubs in the Wairarapa will be present. SPLENDID CONCERT LARGE ATTENDANCE AT KING'S THEATRE.
The King's Theatre, Carterton, was well filled last evening on the occasion of the concert given by Miss Nola Woods’s dancing pupils, assisted by members of the Carterton Savage Club and local soloists. The proceeds were devoted to the Provincial Patriotic Funds. The items given by Miss Woods’s pupils received appreciative encores. The dancing of the pupils was excellent and showed a high standard of training on the part of their teacher. Mrs Worsfold was in fine voice and received encores for her two numbers. Miss J. Russell delighted the audience with her singing of “Shepherds Lullaby” and “Piper from over the way.” The numbers rendered by members of the Carterton Savage Club were given in their usual finished way. Mr Don Irwin was a popular soloist and received well deserved recalls. The Carterton pupils of Miss Woods acquitted themselves well and the audience demanded a well deserved encore. Mr Don Irwin acted in the capacity of stage conductor and the accompaniments for the various items were play-ed-by Mrs Woods, Miss V. Irwin and Mr P. L. Darke. At the conclusion of the entertainment Mr H. T. Leete thanked everyone for their attendance, the appreciative hearing tendered those who contributed such a fine programme and Miss Woods for making the evening enjoyable by the splendid items of her pupils which comprised the major part of the programme. He apologised for the absence of the Mayor and announced that £34 had been taken for admission and sale of tickets. After expenses had been paid it was anticipated that £2O or over would be available for Provincial patriotic purposes. At the conclusion of the evening the performers were entertained at supper. Building Society. At a meeting of the Wairarapa Terminating Buiding Society held last evening an appropriation by sale was secured by Mr. M. G. Greathead, of Greytown, who was the successful tenderer. Satisfactory Show Entries. On enquiry being made this morning it was ascertained from Mr L. H. Smart, secretary of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society that excellent entries had been received for the forthcoming show to be held next week. The en-
tries are very little short of last year’s total. Girl Injured. The little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. K. Wilson, of Ahiaruhe, met with a painful mishap on Tuesday evening. She was playing in bare feet and accidentally trod on a broken bottle, with the result that she suffered a bad cut. Dr Wells attended to the sufferer. Personal. Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Clifton, and family. of Palmerston North, are on holiday in Carterton, and' are staying with Mrs. Cliftons’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Paterson, Pembroke Street. ' Interhouse Girls’ Display. In the Carterton news on Tuesday mention was made of the Carterton interhouse girls’ team taking part in the association display on Labour Day. The display is on the King’s Birthday. November 25, and not on Labour Day. Properties For Sale. In today’s "Times-Age" J. Wilson and Co. Real Estate and Commission Agents, Carterton insert an announcement of properties for sale.
