WATER SUPPLY
CO-OPERATION OF RESIDENTS SOUGHT. PIPE RELINING WORK AFFECTED. The pressure in town yesterday was exceedingly low, due to the fact that the town is being supplied by the 10inch main only, while the 12-inch main is being lined. The 10-inch on its own is unable to cope with the abnormal hosing demand made upon it. As a result, the high levels of Lansdowne; Third Street, Queen Alexandra Street. Terrace End and upper end of The Terrace were without water during the greater part of the day. It is very desirable that the lining of the 12-inch main should be completed before the summer weather sets in properly, but this will be quite impossible if the hosing is not kept within reasonable limits. It is also imperative that all hoses should be shut off at dusk every night. The co-operation of the public in this matter is sought. Residents are asked not to hose excessively or continuously and if this is done, the work will be able to proceed. Otherwise it will be necessary to close down until next autumn.
