TEN HARE RACING

MEETING ON LABOUR DAY. OPENING OF THE SEASON. A special meeting of members of the Wairarapa Coursing Club was held at Mr Hare's residence for the purpose of competing arrangements for a mechanical hare meeting to be held on the Wairarapa Coursing Club's ground at Akura on Monday next (Labour Day). The following programme, starling at 1.30 p.m., was decided upon (all races 440 yards) :—Maiden Sweepstake. Sapling Sweepstake, Open Sweepstake, Maiden Hurdles, Novice Sweep, Ladies’ Plate, Open Hurdles, Consolation. The following is the list of officials:— Judges, Messrs E. Allsworth and S. D. Geary; draw committee. Messrs W. Buick, E. Allsworth, S. D. Geary and M. G. Wing; colour steward. Mr M. G. Wing; timekeepers, Messrs J. Bradbury and E. J. Wing; starter. Mr J. Hanley; assistant starter, Mr R. McEwen; track and protest commiteee, Messrs W. Jensen, W. Williams. J. Hanley and R. McEwen; mechanician. Mr J. Hare; stimulant stewards, Messrs A. Parkes and S. R. McLaughlin. The following ladies’ committee was set up to attend to afternoon tea and soft diinks: Mesdarrfes Geary, Hanley and Hare. It was decided to purchase a new set of hurdles, the committee to hold a working bee'this weekend to erect them and make a few necessary adjustments to the plant. Next Monday's meeting will be the first of the season and every endeavour is being made to ensure a day's excellent sport. Admission charges have been reduced to Is, with members at half price. The delegates who attended the recent conference held at Dannevirke gave an interesting report on the proceedings. The main topic was the sending of a letter to the National Coursing Association demanding control of the dates for North Island clubs. The possibility of forming a North Island Association also came under discussion, but was deferred until the association’s decision was known.
