PARK CUSTODIAN

REFERENCE FROM THE MAYOR. EXPLANATION BY MR JORDAN. “I think that it is due to the Park Committee, myself and the public that I should explain the position concerning the reference I gave to the former Park Custodian." stated the Mayor of Masterton. Mr T. Jordan, at a meeting of the Masterton Borough Council last night. “The Park Custodian (Mr H. Sturgeon) came to me. during the three months’ notice of dismissal he had received from the council and said that, he wished to apply for a post in another district. Out of goodness of heart I said I would help him to make a frosh, start and gave him a personal reference on condition that it should not be used here. When part of it was published recently I saw Mr Sturgeon and asked him why he had used the reference here. He stated that he had published only a portion of it in the •Times-Age.’ “It makes me almost regret my attempt to help the late custodian,” added Mr Jordan.
