CHINESE CONFIDENT
OF KEEPING BURMA ROAD OPEN DESTRUCTION OF BRIDGES. CLAIMED BY JAPANESE. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) TOKIO, October 20. The “Nichi Nichi Shimbun’s” correspondent from an undisclosed Japanese air base in Indo-China said that naval planes on Sunday bombed the Burma route for the second time and destroyed strategic bridges at Yunnan. They also attacked several scores of enemy trucks. Another units effectively bombed munition factories at Kokiuhsien. CHUNGKING, October 20. Chinese officials are confident of their ability to keep the road open in spite of Japanese air attacks. SERIOUS DAMAGE TO BRIDGES SPANNING GORGES. (Received This Day, 9 a.m.) HONG KONG. October 21. It is confirmed that Japanese naval aircraft yesterday subjected the Chinese portion of the Burma Road to an intensive bombardment, inflicting serious damage on vital bridges spanning the deep Yunnan gorges.
