Lord Lothian, British Ambassador to Washington, interviewed after his arrival, said:— “I have no special mission for either the British or American Governments. ./ I come merely for general consultations. I am staying three weeks. “Americans now understand what the war is about and Britain’s part in. it. There is a universal desire to help Britain to the utmost by the supply of munitions, planes, and other equipment. Hundreds of American planes are reaching Britain monthly, and the number is increasing. “The achievements of the R.A.F. have greatly impressed Americans who, three months ago, believed that Britain would collapse. Americans now believe that that has been prevented by the R.A.F.”
