The Governor-General and Lady Galway, attended by Captain Lord Dormer, A.D.C., left Wellington bj r air yesterday morning to undertake a number of engagements at Nelson, Grey mouth and Westport. Their Excellencies are expected to return to Wellington tomorrow afternoon. Mr A. J. Keller, o£ Hukinga, has been appointed assistant teacher at the Tuhitarata School. Lower Valley. Mr G. M. Slater, of Pahiatua, has been appointed headmast&r at the Tua Marina School. Mr Owen Jones, of Masterton, is attending the Anglican Synod in Wellington today. Mr A. L. Clelland (Canterbury) has been appointed assistant teacher at the Masterton Central School. Mr A. G. Featonby, of Puketoi, has been appointed to the position of sole teacher at the Muhunoa School. The Hon. H. G. R. Mason, Minister of Education, who visited Nelson yesterday. returned to Wellington by air today. Mr Alex Adamson, of Invercargill, who had been the guest of Mr and Mrs W. Adamson, Masterton, has returned home. The death occurred in Palmerston North on Saturday of Mr Victor Goldfinch, a well-known business man of that city. The Rt. Rev. C. A. Cherrington, Bishop of Waikato, who visited Masterton last week, returned to Hamilton yesterday. The death has occurred in Napier of Mr Henry Griffith Parker, Hastings. He was in his eighty-fourth year. Born in Manchester, England, Mr Parker joined the Imperial Army and on his retirement became associated with the theatrical business. He was manager of several companies, some of which toured India and the Far East. He served in the Great War and finally took up his residence in Napier. The Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, will leave Wellington tonight for Christchurch, where he will visit a number of factories tomorrow in company with the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Mr Sullivan. Mr Fraser will be entertained at a social gathering tomorrow night by the North Canterbury Labour Representation Committee, and on Thursday night he will speak on “New Zealand at War” at the annual meeting and dinner of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce. Mr Norman Alfred Vile, Palmerston North, died recently at the age of 44. He was born in Eketahuna, and went to Palmerston North about 1918. He was first of all associated with export meat concerns. He then entered the motor business and subsequently was employed by Justice and Edmunds and in the wholesale motor trade, till he had to give up this work because of illhealth. Mr Vile-was a member of the Manawatu Agricultural and Pastoral Association and of the Manawatu Hunt Club for many years. In 1924 Mr Vile married Miss Violet Ward, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs George Ward, Palmerston North, who survives him. and there are two young children. Mr Vile was the eldest son of the late Mr H. Vile and Mrs Vile. Palmerston North. Mr A. E. Caddick has been appointed headmaster of the Christchurch Boys’ High School, succeeding Mr G. J. Lancaster, who will retire at the end of the year. Mr Caddick was educated at Mount Cook School. Wellington, at Wellington College and at Victoria University College. He took his Master of Arts Degree at Victoria University College with honours in English and German. His teaching experience, which extends over about 35 years, began in 1906. when he was appointed to a position at the Clyde Quay School. Wellington. He was later on the staff of the Kilbirnie School and of the Newtown School in 1912. He became a master at Wellington College and in 1927 was appointed senior English master at Christchurch Boys’ High School. In 1936 he too charge as headmaster at Christchurch West High School.
