MARTINBOROUGH
S.M. COURT MONTHLY SITTING YESTERDAY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly sitting of the S.M. Court was held yesterday, Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., being on the bench. For having failed to stop when the railway line at Renall Street, Mastertoil, was not clear, Robert Lee pleaded guilty and was fined £5 and costs. J. A. Beveridge was charged that he failed to bury a dead animal after being warned by the Health Inspector. The evidence showed that the animal had died in the middle of August, and had been dragged to another paddock and left unburied. A nuisance arose, and the Health Inspector had visited the place and ordered the burial of the animal. The defendant neglected to do so, and after a second visit by the Inspector, had dragged the animal along the road to another paddock. Defendant was convicted and fined £5 and costs. • In giving his reserved judgment in a charge against Herbert William Jordan of having been in possession of liquor near a dance hall at Pirinoa, the Magistrate said that he did not believe defendant’s story, and would inflict a fine of £2 and costs.
