CARTERTON

EXPORT LAMBS DISTRICT COMPETITION. (“Times-Age” Special.) A meeting was held in the P. and A. Society's rooms, Carterton yesterday afternoon in connection with the ex- ■ port lambs district competition. Mr C. L. Reynolds presided and there were also present Messrs Blatchford, J. Fisher, R. H. Williams, and L. H. Smart. Apologies for absence were received from Sir Wm. Perry and Messrs V. L. Robinson and R. G. Lee. The financial statement concerning the last competition was submitted and was adopted. After discussion it was decided to hold the annual competition on Thursday. November 14, and that three prizes (£3 first, £2 second, and £1 third) be awarded. ■ Messrs K. Deighton, L. V. James and M. A. McLeod were appointed judges of the competition. / Votes of thanks were accorded to Messrs R. H. Williams and to Messrs Thos. Borthwick and Sons. Australasia. Ltd. A letter was received from the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board, Wellington. enclosing a copy of the conditions of the district competition in export lambs for the 1940-41 season and stating that it was intended to hold the competiton on the same lines as last season. Each individual pen was to consist of three lambs, and entries from each farmer were to be limited to two pens of lambs, and not more than two pens may be entered off one farm. The competition is to be confined to lambs bred for export and not for stud purposes. All lambs must be either (1) long woolled, or (2) the progeny of a Down or short-woolled ram crossed with a long-woolled ewe, or a long-woolled Merino-cross ewe. The individual weight of each lamb is not to exceed 301bs frozen weight. Dance at Belvedere. The residents of Belvedere and Carrington have decided to hold another dance in the schoolroom, Belvedere, on Friday evening. The proceeds are to be devoted to the entertainment of soldiers leaving the district. Personal Items. Mr Norman Williams, Postmaster at Eketahuna, is a visitor to Carterton. Ladies’ Bowling Club. A meeting of ladies’ interested in the formation of a ladies’ bowling club in Carterton will be held in the local bowling pavilion on Monday afternoon next at 2.30 o’clock. Already over a dozen ladies have signified their intention of joining the club. Gardens Battered By Wind. A heavy wind which was experienced in Carterton and district last evening battered gardens that were in exA posed positions. Cheese Consignment. A further large consignment of cheese from factories in and around Carterton district left the railway station for Wellington yesterday. Draught Horses. Dairy farmers of Carterton and district will have the opportunity at the Carterton stock sale tomorrow of purchasing first-class draught horses from the Estate of C. McDonald, Canterbury. These horses are now in the yards at Carterton, and range from four to eight years, and are broken to all work. They are a very fine lot of animals and should command a ready sale. Harness and covers will be sold with the horses and a trial given on the day of sale.
