EKETAHUNA
DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL MONTHLY MEETING OF COMMITTEE. ("Times-Age" Special.) The monthly meeting of the committee of the Eketahuna District High School was held on Monday night. Those present were Messrs H. E. Greathead (in the chair). S. Daniel (secretary). K. Murray. J. Tolley, H. E. Rogers and the headmaster, Mr A. B. Fordyce. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs R. Gallagher and R. Farrow. Accounts amounting to £lO 5s lOd were passed for payment. A letter was read from the Education Board urging the conservation of petrol on the school bus service. After a lengthy discussion it was decided to point out to the board that the 30 miles of empty running could be profitably used on the Hukanui-Kakariki route. The secretary was instructed to write to the board asking that a shelter fence be erected at the south side of the assembly area: also that repairs to the footpaths and the interior decorations were necessary.
In his monthly report the headmaster stated that there were 159 pupils attending the primary school and 53 secondary pupils on the roll. An epidemic of measles had seriously interfered with school work, at times as few as six pupils being left in Forms 5 and 6. Miss Douglas had commenced her duties as dental nurse in place of Mrs Hogan who had resigned. FIRE BRIGADE TRIPE CUP COMPETITION. The annual four men motor competition for the Tripe Cup was held by members of the Fire Brigade last night. Only two teams took part and the result was a win for Deputy-Supt. H. Daniel, Firemen H. Leslie, H. Gyde and Ray Fafeita. The time was 55secs. On a technical breach the other team, consisting of Supt. H. Rogers, Firemen S. Daniel, F. West and N. Parsons, was disqualified. Pupil Breaks on Arm. While playing at the Nireaha school, a pupil, Joyce Burr, had the misfortune to break an arm. Personal. Mi- H. Dearie, High Street, is visiting Blenheim. Scrap Metal Drive. The recent drive for scrap metal in the Nireaha district resulted in the collection of between five and six hundredweight of metal. Card Tournament. The monthly card tournament held by the Nireaha Patriotic Committee was well attended. The winners were: Ladies, Mrs J. B. Drysdale; consolation, Miss Jean Goss. Men, Mr J. P. Petersen; consolation, Mr C. Hansen.
