GREYTOWN

VOLUNTEER FIRE BRIGADE MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. ("Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Grey- ' town Volunteer Fire Brigade was held on Monday evening when Superintendent J. Wood presided over a full attendance of members. The secretary reported that the brigade had succeeded in securing 200 ft. of new hose. A letter was received from the Carterton Fire Brigade extending congratulations to Messrs E. Boyd and W. Gray who had recently received the Fire Brigades’ Association's gold star. The Inspector of Fire Brigades wrote stating that exemption for firemen from military service would not be considered unless the member concerned was considered to be a key man. PLUNKET SOCIETY BRIDGE PARTY. The Plunket Society’s bridge party held yesterday afternoon was well attended, six tables being occupied. Mrs F. C. Bunny won the first prize and Mrs Dewhurst the consolation. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames A. Haigh and E. Maddison. MINIATURE RIFLE CLUB PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES. The Greytown Miniature Rifle Club wind-up dance was held in the Odd Fellows’ Hall on Monday evening. Visitors were present from all parts of the district and the hall was rather crowded for dancing. Mr J. F. Thompson in presenting the trophies won during the past year congratulated the club on its very successful season. Despite the fact that ammunition had been hard to obtain the club had been able to hold its weekly competitions right through the season. The music for the dancing was supplied by Mr S. Te Tau, and extras were played by Mr I. Drysdale and Miss Hopkins. Mr Saba gave a recitation and Mr T. Te Tau sang three songs. Mr H. Gray acted as M.C. Mr G. Brunton and Miss Higgins won the Monte Carlo dance. Euchre Party. An enjoyable time was spent by those who attended the euchre party held at the residence of Mr and Mrs Tui Morgan on Monday evening. ' The prize-winners were Mrs A. Gregor and Mr K. Trotman. The prize for the hidden number was won by Mrs Parker, and the consolation went to Miss J. Morgan.
