Nine people were killed and over fifty injured when an express train en route to London was derailed near London today. The train hit a luggage barrow, which ran down a ramp at a station on to the line and was then driven on till wedged in points. The engine overturned, burying its nose in the track. Several coaches were telescoped and rails were torn up and thrown through the windows. The engine driver and firemen were killed. A.R.P. workers helped the railway staffs to deal with the wreck.
