A well-known Canterbury, farmer. Mr John Mowbray Howard Tripp, died last Friday evening in his home “Silverton,” Geraldine. He was aged 70. The death occurred at Gisborne yesterday of Miss Athol Stackwood, younger daughter of the late Mr and Mrs E. Stackwood, formerly of Masterton.

Major G. G. Hancox, Captain J. H. Conly and Lieut. W. Ball, all of Masteuton, leave tomorrow to attend the Central District School of Instruction, Wellington. Private B. R. Jenkins, G. D. Caldwell and E. W. Inder are also leaving to attend the N.C.O. class at the school.

Organist of Whiteley Memorial Church, New Plymouth, for almost 43 years, Mr G. H. White retired from that position recently. Mr White had missed only one church service dui ing the 43 years, and that because of indisposition. It was estimated that Mi While had played for about 4200 services. Mr White is a brother of Mr H. Temple White, well known in musical circles in Wellington. Mr Flinders Scott Mcßae died at his heme. Blairichburn, Napier Road, Palmerston North yesterday morning. He was born in Awatere, Marlborough, 75 years ago and in his earlier life was associated with his father in farming operations on Blairich and Wells Hill stations. About 45 years ago he went to Palmerston North and acquired from Captain Mowlem the property on Napier Road, which he farmed for the remainder of his life.

There was a large attendance at the funeral on Saturday of the late Mr Alex Newman, of Masterton. The Rev H. S. Kings conducted the service at the residence and also at the graveside. Wreaths were sent by the following: Masterton branch of the Painters’ Union. Champion Bakeries. Ltd., Mr R. E. Baker and staff, Labour Party, staff of Self Help Co-op., Ltd., Mr C. N. Cole and staff. Kuripuni Methodist Ladies’ Guild. Messrs C. Tagg and Sons and staff, Messrs R. Lambert and Sons, Kuripuni Methodist Sunday School and trustees; Kuripuni Methodist Young Men’s Bible Class, Central School Committee, fellow employees of Messrs W. Rigg. Ltd. and Messrs C. E. Daniell. Ltd. Messrs R. M. Falconer (W. Rigg. Ltd). D. W. Finlayson (Labour Party). R. Button (Methodist Church). F. Cole (Painters’ Union), W. R. Nicol (Central School Committee and F. B. Pickering (Druids' Lodge) acted as pall-bearers.
