ORCHESTRAL CONCERT
PROGRAMME ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT. The concert of the Masterton Orchestral Society at the Opera House on Wednesday night promises to be one of the best presented to the public for a long time. Opening with the tuneful and varied overture, “Orpheus in the Underworld,” by Offenbach (who does not know his “Barcarolle” from “Tales of Hoffmann”), and including the exciting “Faust” selection of Bqrlioz, the ever-popular “Hyde Park” suite, and a large number of smaller pieces of a light and attractive type, the orchestral fare is exceptionally interesting. The soloist is Mr R. G. Gilbert, and a special attraction will be a quartette of men’s voices, who will be heard in Maunder’s “Border Ballad” and Wheeler’s “To the Death,” a rousing hunting song. Seats.may be booked free of charge’ at the Arts and Crafts.
