RUN OVER BY TRAIN

MEMBER OF HOME GUARD KILLED. ACCIDENT NEAR LINTON. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The body of a member of the Home Guard, Edward George Wood, aged 52, was found horribly mutilated, as the result of being run over by a train, near the Linton railway station, nine miles from Palmerston North, shortly before noon yesterday. The body was seen lying beside the train track by a nearby resident, who investigated in company with a railway porter. How the accident occurred is a mystery. In civil life Mr Wood was a labourer, resident in Shannon. He leaves a widow and two daughters.
