POTATO FERTILISERS
A SUITABLE MIXTURE. There arc dozens of excellent proprietary potato fertilisers on the market which provide the gardener with all that he requires. Those who prefer to mix their own, however, even though it involves extra trouble, may do so with superphosphate, sulphate of ammonia and sulphate of potash. It is a good plan to have two mixtures, one for the earlies and the other for maincrop and late varieties, as the earlies are not in the soil long enough to make use of heavy supplies of nitrogen or potash. In that case the mixture will be as follows:—For earlies, eight parts of superphosphate, five parts of sulphate of ammonia, and three parts of sulphate of potash, applied at the rate of four ounces to the square yard. For the main crops: Four parts superphosphate. three parts sulphate of ammonia and two parts of sulphate of potash applied at the rate of five ounces per square yard.
