SPRING FASHIONS
NEW NOTES SOUNDED. This spring fashion sounds some new notes and reiterates some familiar ones, but everything is as wearable as you could wish. Your skirts will go with a swing from the waistline, and you will look juvenile to a degree. Everything Is young-looking, fresh, and cool, with a multitude of colours, and sometimes touches of stark white. There is colour on your hats, on your gloves, which are sometimes in two tones, stitched in a third, and even on your shoes, which are tied with coloured grosgrain ribbon. Bodices are Bloused.—The newest line is the bloused bodice which pouches out over the waistband instead of being tucked in tight like a shirt. It is shirred or gathered above the belt and very full. Skirts even Shorter. —Your dresses will probably be even shorter than last year, with the skirts accordion and box pleated, flared and gored. Your height and the proportions of your figure must be taken into consideration when choosing the best length. Waistlines are Natural.— Belts are narrow and novel, and worn at the natural waistline, which does not need nipping in as the hip interest, and bloused bodice makes it seem slender. The corselette line is still popular. Sleeves any Length.—Sleeves are el-bow-length on formal frocks, and pushed up above or just below the elbow or chopped short on more simple frocks. Most dinner dresses have sleeves, either long or short. Coats are Simple.— Smooth lines for ydlir classic coat, with the full-skirted formula for others,'giving an effect of great elegance. Instead of a dark coat over a light frock reverse the procedure, and try a light coat over a dark frock. It has a pleasing effect. Prints remain Popular.—Neat little prints in formal designs or huge flowers on a light ground for your printed afternoon frock. Also printed blouses for your suit to match your turbans. Below the Belt.— lnterest is all to the side below the belt, and there are saddle drapes and gatherings at the side over the hiplines. Touches of Trimming.— Scroll work and embroidery are important on jackets and pockets. Sometimes a waistband is embroidered all over m bright threads or jewels. Putting on Pockets. —There are pockets all over the place, some of them big and embroidered, others just attached to a belt, or stitched oyer the hipline. They are on frocks, jackets, and coats. Cotton for Trimming.—Much used for blouses and lingerie trimmings, cotton is in great demand for these details, as well as for checked prints for sports and beach wear. Odds and Ends.—Have the gores of your skirt outlined with moire or lace for a change. Over a printed frock wear a dark jacket lined with the same material as the frock. If you wear black, - always brighten it with bright touches of colour. 'lf your frock in dark tonings does have a jacket, it’s smarter if printed with amusing motifs. Always have your blouse in striking contrast to your suit. Have an evening frock of lace or organdi and look as cool as a cucumber on summer nights. Humour, history, or sentiment are still to be flaunted in the buttonhole.
