GERMANS IN RUMANIA
MORE OR LESS CONFLICTING REPORTS Regarding Arrival of Troops and Technicians MECHANISED FORCES REACH OILFIELDS TALK OF ESTABLISHMENT OF NAVAL BASE ON BLACK SEA COAST Several reports have been received of the arrival of large numbers 'of German troops in Rumania, the 8.8. C. states. An Associated Press message from Bucharest, censored before it left the Rumanian capital, says that from available evidence representatives of all branches of German industry, as well as German military and naval contingents, are on their way to Rumania. It is stated in some quarters that the forces are to assist in the defence of Rumania. The report is not confirmed. Other German and Rumanian sources deny that large numbers of troops, tanks and anti-aircraft guns have arrived, but one report from Berlin stated that it was possible that German troops had arrived. Authoritative sources state that German armed contingents have arrived as a precautionary measure to protect the Rumanian oilfields. A British United Press message says German mechanised forces have established themselves in the Rumanian oilfields. A German expeditionary corps is said to have been set up in Bucharest and to be in contact with the Rumanian General Staff. Other reports state that German troops have gone to Rumania to help in the training of the Rumanian Army in the latest methods of warfare. Some reports say that a German naval party has gone to Rumania to supervise the establishment of a naval base on the Black Sea.
