MAURICEVILLE WEST

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE / BEST BLOOM COMPETITION. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a fair attendance of members at the Mauriceville District Women’s Institute meeting held at the home of Mrs Myers Junr., when Mrs I. Cameron presided. The roll call, “A Gardening Hint,” brought forward many helpful hints. Mesdames H. Myers and Wilson were appointed delegates to attend the council meeting to be held in Carterton on October 25. • A most interesting demonstration on "cushion making” given by Mrs A. Larsen was much appreciated. On the motion of Mrs Cameron a very hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Larsen and to the hostesses. The best bloom competition was won by Mrs Pain with Mrs Cameron second. The meeting closed with the singing of “God Save the King.” Aircraftsman Honoured. At the Memorial Hall on Thursday evening a very large crowd attended the dance held in honour of LeadingAircraftsman G. Gregory. Mr A. Forsberg in asking their guest to accept a small gift, wished him the best of luck and God speed. Leading-Aircraftsman Gregory suitably replied. The music for the dance was supplied by Te Tau’s Orchestra, much appreciated extras being played by Messrs A. and I. Larsen. Messrs D. Johansen and H. Mortenson were efficient M’s.C. A Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss J. McGovern and W. H. Cheetham. Supper was served by a ladies’ committee under the supervision of Mrs C. Johansen. A happy gathering closed with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” and “God Save the King.” Sewing Guild. Very favourable progress is being made by the Mauriceville West Women's Sewing Guild. A well-filled box of finished hospital requisites is certainly the pride of the ladies. The members appeal for donations of old woollen garments, old linen, etc. Anj of these may be left with the hon. secretary and will be greatly appreciated.
