At the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s meeting at Hastings on Saturday the Russell Memorial Handicap was won by the second favourite Native Song, who was two lengths ahead of Master Cykion, an outside fancy who won on the first day. The Masterton trained Par Avion went out favourite for the Juvenile Handicap and headed Erin's Court by half a length. It was a spectacular win. At the Methven Trotting Club’s meeting the Methven Cup went to a rank outsider in Regal, with a longer fancy, Zincali, second. The Goldfields Cup at the Thames trotting meeting was won by the favourite Sentiment.
