LADY GALWAY GUILD
DISTRESS IN GREAT BRITAIN. APPEAL FOR QUILT MATERIALS. Although the principal work of the local branch of the Lady Galway Guild is the remaking of garments, their activities embrace other comforts as well, such as quilts. It is for this latter purpose that the local committee is appealing for old blankets, new or used cretonnes, chintzes, curtains or in fact any material suitable for coverings. The committee has handled, and is still handling, an enormous quantity of clothing which has been donated by residents of Masterton and district, both through the postal clothes drive, individually, and by various private sewing circles. The quantity sent forward from Masterton must compare very favourably with the contributions from other districts.
It might be the impression that the clothes drive brought forth only discarded clothing, but this is far from being the case. All articles sent to headquarters have been of excellent quality and in such a condition that they are ready for immediate use. a considerable quantity obviously having had very little use, in fact quite a number being new. In connection with this appeal there is no need to stress the worthiness of the cause, and committee members are confident that there will be a sufficient response to enable them to carry out the work they have planned. By the time the quilts, etc.. reach England the winter will be well advanced, and it will readily be realised what, comfort those who respond to the appeal will be contributing to some homeless family. Those having materials to give are asked to communicate with the Mayoress, Mrs T. Jordan, who is in charge of the local branch of the Guild, or they can be left at the Ladies’ Rest Room. Dixon Street.
