SOCIAL GATHERING ST. JOHN GUILD LADIES ENTERTAINED. (“Times-Age” Special.) The ladies of St. John’s Guild were the guests of the ladies of the Western Lake, Kahutara and Pahautea guilds at a social afternoon held in the Parish Hall on Tuesday. A pleasant time was spent with competitions. and musical items contributed by Mrs Kirkland (song, accompanied by Miss Jeanette Matthews), Miss Brenda Bloxam (song, accompanied by Mrs Allen), Miss B. Holmes (sketch) and Miss E. Collins (pianoforte solo). The winners of competitions were Mesdames Cuff, Bloxam and Arthur. The hostesses were Mesdames J. C. Bidwill and R. W. Matthews. GOLF ECLECTIC MATCH. The eclectic match played by the ladies on Gum Grove links on Wednesday resulted: —Miss M. Ruane, 1; Mrs McCarthy, 2; Mrs Davis, 3. The competition for the season was won by Mrs McCarthy. Birthday Gift. The Mayoress, Miss Card, has been asked by the ladies of her committee to take a small gift from them to Hope Fitzpatrick, who is staying with Mrs Houston and has just arrived under the British evacuee children scheme from Scotland, to mark the celebration today of her first birthday in New Zealand. Christmas Gifts. A busy time was spent at the Red Cross rooms yesterday when the Christmas gifts for local men overseas, given by the Featherston residents, were packed. Miss Card wishes to thank all present for their assistance. Personal. Constable A. McLeod, of Featherston, has received advice’ that his son Corporal McLeod, of the Black Watch, has been promoted to Second Lieutenant.
