VICHY EMULATES NAZI METHODS DISABILITIES IMPOSED. GERMANS APPLYING RACIAL LAWS. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) LONDON, October 1. The Vichy correspondent of the British United Press says that the Council of Ministers has completed the draft of a Jewish statute which is the first racial legislation in French history. It creates different categories of Jews according to birth. Newly-arrived Jewish immigrants are debarred from professions and are subject to other disabilities. The Germans are now applying the Nuremberg racial laws to occupied France. Frenchmen were told over the radio tonight that the German authorities, moved by the requests of thousands of Frenchmen for them to intervene, had decided to tackle the Jewish problem. A German military decree says that Jews who have fled from the occupied zone will not be allowed to return. The remainder must be registered by the head of each family ’ within the next three weeks. Until the end of the month all Jewish businesses must be marked with special placards in German and French.
