Checked Up By Alleged Victims ALL ATTACKING FORMATIONS BROKEN UP LOADED ENEMY BOMBER EXPLODED IN MID-AIR London was interested yesterday in what the Germans say they have been doing- in London, a 8.8. C. broadcast states. The German radio said that German bombers and fighters had started out for England and that London had been continual y attacked yesterday. Enemy air forces certainly tried to penetrate the defences but every formation was intercepted arid broken up by British fighters before it reached London. The few planes that got through did little damage. In the centre of London, people saw practically nothing, but those on the outskirts watched a few battles. Nine German planes were shot down and one British fighter is missing. In daylight yesterday some of the German planes which could not reach London dropped bombs on the Kent coast, but little damage was done and there were few casualties. A lew bombs were also dropped during the day in isolated districts of Essex, South-West England and South Wales. During Tuesday night, anti-aircraft gunfire shot down a German bcmber before it had released its bombs. The machine blew up with the loudest explosion ever heard over South-East London and pieces of the plane were scattered over several miles. ■■
