This achieveI ment is all the more creditable when | it is considered how many and varied I are the calls which the public are | being asked to bear at this critical | period of our history. There is no I doubt whatever that this wonderful ['response to our effort is due to the 1 growing recognition of the influence I of the society in bringing new hope I and light to millions by the spread of I the written Word in these dark and I troubled days. During the year Mrs | V. Wakelin, Organising Secretary, visI ited Masterton and was very pleased B at the warm welcome extended to | her. Meetings were held at the residI ences of Mrs F. E. J. Ractliffe, Masfl terton South, Mrs A. T. Thompson, I Upper Plain, and a combined meeting u of Lansdowne and Masterton Central I was held at the residence of Mrs L. Moore, Cole Street. We wish to express to our president, Mrs J. Macßae, branch presidents and secretaries the warmest thanks for their ever ready help and support at all times. To our collectors we owe a deep debt of gratitude for their untiring efforts and faithfulness in the work. We would also like to take this opportunity of placing on record our deep appreciation of the many years of loyal service given by Miss Pearce, Miss Ashwell, and Mrs T. M. Aplin, who. owing to health reasons, were unable to continue their work as collectors. The sympathetic help of our ministers has been of great value, especially preaching upon the work of the Bible Society at the beginning of our effort. We are very pleased to have our Dominion Secretary, the Rev D. Calder, with us once more and we are looking forward to his address which we know will prove one of great interest and inspiration to us all.” The report was signed by the president, the Rev J. Davie.
