ESPERANTO

MASTERTON CLUB MEETING. There was a good attendance of members at the weekly meeting of the Masterton Esperanto Club held last evening.' The president, Mi - A. G. Wiltshire, welcomed Mr C. Phillips, of Johnsonville, who in reply gave an interesting address. The secretary, Mr W. H. King, said that Mr Phillips and he had first become acquainted some years ago on a train between Wellington and Palmerston North as a result of their wearing the Esperanto international badge, a five-pointed green star. Correspondence comprised two Esperanto journals printed in England and China, and a letter from the New Zealand Esperanto Association in connection with the 11th New Zealand Esperanto Congress which will be held at Wanganui during the coming New Year.

Mr Wiltshire gave a brief account of his recent visit to Wellington and detailed the proceedings at the Esperantista Kultura Rondo (Esperantists' Cultural Circle), an all-Esperanto Society of Wellington adherents of the international language, which he had attended. A very interesting article in Esperanto entitled “A Visit to the Mataura Paper Mills” was presented by Mrs J. McNab. This was followed by an hour’s conversational practice during which several common subjects were freely discussed around the club blackboard.
