’ BOWLING CLUB WORKING BEE ON GREEN. (“Times-Age” Special.) Several members of the Carterton Bowling Club held a working bee on the green on Saturday commencing the .'work' of putting in_the boxing round the croquet J awn in preparation of the opening of rhe season of the ladies' club. The work will be continued next Saturday. OBITUARY MRS JAS. KNOWLES. The death occurred suddenly on Sunday of Mrs J. D. Knowles, of Howard Street, Carterton. Deceased was well known and highly respected throughout the Daleiield and Carterton districts and her sudden death came as a great shock to her relatives and friends. Born at Matarawa 70 years ago, she was a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Chris. Waterson. Mrs Knowles, who was a twin, received her education at the Dalefield School. Some years ago she and her husband left Dalefield and took up their residence in Carterton, living a retired life. Deceased is survived by her husband and two daughters (Mesdames V. Welch, Masterton, and A. Thompson (Morison's Bush). She also leaves three brothers and two sisters to mourn her loss. The sisters are Mesdames Hopwood (Thames) and r Ordish (New Plymouth), and the bros’ thers Messrs W. Waterson (Hamilton), Geo. Waterson (Wanganui), and Jas. Waterson (Taumarunui). Deep sympathy will be extended to the relatives. The funeral will leave Mrs Knowles's late residence, Howard Street, Carterton, tomorrow at 1.15 p.m. after a short, service for the Clareville Cemetery. GOLF WEEKEND COMPETITIONS. LONDON RELIEF, FUND CARD PARTY ON SATURDAY _ NIGHT. There was a large attendance at the card party held in the bandroom on Saturday evening, the proceeds from which are to be donated to the London Relief Fund. The prizes were won by Messrs W. Morris and M. Martin and Mesdames McGuinness and A. Jensen. Personal Items. Miss Rona Chew, of Wellington, visited her parents, Mr and Mrs W. Chew, Rhodes Street, Carterton, at the weekend. Miss A. (“Nance”) McPhee, of Conoily’s Line, has left Carterton to spend a fortnight’s holiday in Christchurch. Farewell Gathering. Tomorrow evening at the band room, Carterton, residents of the town and district will tender a farewell social to Mr lan Mackie. Beneficial Rain. After a few days of warm weather and drying winds, steady rain commenced to fall last evening and continues today. The pastures and gardens will materially benefit by the rain.
