Length; length and a half. Wings of Song was fourth. Time, 1.8. Successful Start. A fresh horse in Gay Fox, having his first race of the season, scored well in the Awahou Handicap at Foxton on Saturday. He is trained by Ashley Jenkins at Opaki, and is owned by Mr W. Devon. He was always going well just on behind the pacemakers. Cetewayo and Haile Selassie, and when Cetewayo retired on the turn, and Haile Selassie hung out, Gay Fox went through and ran on to win decisively. Vaalsstar finished on from the back to cut out Haile Selassie for second money, Sceptre was a moderate fourth. Cetewayo again failed badly. Pearl of Asia Wins Well. Pearl of Asia, last in all the early running of the Carnarvon Handicap at Foxton on Saturday, swept round the whole field on the turn, and running on in the straight, she had a nice win. The race was run at a fair pace with Old Surrey and Master Cyklon cut in front, and there was not much excuse for the beaten horses, but Little Robin might -have beaten the winner with a better passage from the half to the straight. He was going well in behind the leading lot when Lady Montana began to drift, and she car ried him well back at a critical stage. Winsome Lu had every chance, being' splendidly placed throughout, but as at Marton she was just good enough ; far third. Gaelic Song was the favourite but she was never dangerous, and the bunching of the field on the turn ■ settled any chance Coloney Bogey and Siegmund had of getting up. Pearl of Asia is trained by T. R. George at Opaki, and it was stated in this column ; on Friday that a win for Pearl of Asia i was within striking distance.
