FREE MILK

DISTRIBUTION TO WAIRARAPA COLLEGE PUPILS. SCHEME COMMENCED YESTERDAY. “The free distribution of milk at Wairarapa College commenced yesterday morning when 270 bottles were distributed,” reported the Principal, Mr G. G. Hancox, at the monthly meeting of the College Board of Governors last night. “I hope that it will be the forerunner of a proper sterilised milk supply run by the municipal authority,” observed Mr W. R. Nicol, chairman. He com- ’•T' mented on the fact that the supply was ' drawn from Dannevirke. In reply to a question from Mrs J. L. Hair as to wastage he pointed out that half pint bottles were now used as the result of experience gained in supplying pint bottles to the primary schools. “A marked beneficial effect is to be seen in the school children as a result of the scheme.” stated Mr Owen Jones. Mr L. T. Daniell explained that the supply came from Dannevirke as there was a valuable plant there for handling the milk and there was a plentiful supply of milk. The fact that the distribution was free of charge to the board was stressed by members. Mr Hancox mentioned that the milk was in keen demand, in fact the demand was greater than the supply. Satisfaction with the position was expressed by other members of the board.
