YOUNG FARMERS
MASTERTON CLUB MEETING INTERESTING FILM DISPLAY. FLEECE COMPETITION BEING HELD. There was an excellent attendance at the September meeting of the MasterzSflTnmiiißs ton Young Farmers’ Club, held in the Farmers' Rooms night. Mr J. D. Macwas in the chair. Members were asked to bear in mind that the fleece competition would be held again this year. A fleece from every member was the aim of the club. The points gained so far in the District Committee's. Club Efficiency Contest are: —Carterton 60 points; Alfredton 48 points: Martinborough 41 points.Greytown 12 points; Featherston 8 points; Masterton 4 points; Tinui 0 points. Mr Sydney Freeman, organising secretary of the New Zealand Young Farmers' Club Federation, reviewed the business at the last annual meeting of the Federation. He proceeded to exhibit a series of films on the following subjects: Life cycle of lupin, ground water, scenes of deep sea fishing. making glass tops for petrol pumps, evacuation of Dunkirk, geyserr and volcanic eruptions, scuttling of Graf Spee. cartoon, and lambing time in the Cheviot Hills, England. Mr Freeman urged all young farmers to attend all their meetings as regularly as possible and by so doing keep the movement in New Zealand alive. The Federation had pledged itself to help the Government in its war effort, and the Young Farmers’ Club movement was out to increase the knowledge of all young farmers anc the farming community as a whole. Mr Freeman said that a delegate at the last annual meeting had reported the formation of a Young Farmers’ Club by the New Zealanders in Egypt. It had 80 members.
